METAMORPHOSIS - My New Work, A New Rhythm
In 2019, I was preparing for a solo exhibition in Chelsea and had completed half of my environmental project when COVID struck. My project was canceled. In 2021, I revisited my unfinished work, using it as a way to reimagine my new life—and a new reality for others.
So much had changed. I reworked the canvases, leaving some elements intact as important markers of the past. I struggled through this process, creating a timeline until I drew a whimsical line that connected two moments—the past and the present. Then, I softened certain details, bringing the most conflicting moments to the forefront.
This exhibition was originally meant to focus on the environment, a global conversation on the four elements—water, fire, air, and soil. But in light of the pandemic, these primary concerns seemed to fade, just as the world was experiencing the real consequences of our wrongdoings.
How can I intertwine environmental urgency with the global health crisis? The challenge is enormous, but I am getting there. Metamorphosis is an essential body of work for me, consisting of elements we have never lived through before, combined with unknowns that shape a new reality and a new rhythm.
