"OUR HEART IS SPEAKING TO US"

SUSTAINABILITY

Parallel to documenting the polluters in the early 2000's, Suzanne C. Nagy turned her interest to investigating sustainability. She was looking for a symbolic tool to demonstrate the urgency of reducing the carbon from the air. Her choice was an iconic image,  “THE HEART,” which became her signature work for three major exhibitions. These light panels have positive and negative images, as the artist illustrates an alternative venue for our future.

She wrote in 2013, “The light creates a narrative by illuminating the subject with a colorful LED panel. The 20th century was mesmerized by glamour and brand recognition to the point that it has pushed aside and forgotten much of the global woes that will threaten our civilization in the next century. She believes that the world is not willing to look into the depth of things which is symbolized by the 3-dimensional structure housing the light and illuminating the surface, blocking out the opulent of the crystal and heating up internally.”
