Accumulation I: Mexican Gulf Oil Spill
Freies Museum Berlin, Germany
2011
Three-dimensional photography.
In my exhibition Accumulation, I explore the lasting impact of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill through three-dimensional photography. This catastrophic event released millions of barrels of oil into the ocean, devastating marine life and coastal communities. My work captures the layers of destruction, symbolizing how pollution accumulates over time, both physically in the environment and psychologically in our collective consciousness. By using depth and dimension, I aim to immerse viewers in the haunting aftermath, where nature and industry collide in an unsettling balance. The glossy yet distorted surfaces in my pieces reflect the deceptive sheen of oil on water—beautiful yet toxic. Accumulation serves as a reminder that environmental disasters do not simply disappear; their effects linger, seeping into ecosystems and generations to come. Through this exhibition, I hope to provoke reflection on the consequences of human actions and the urgent need for accountability and change.
